BRAHMA’S HOME PAGE

Multiple media Installation.

Acrylic on canvas, HTML interface on computer Dimensions- 48” X 72”

Baiju Parthan, 1999

Brahma’s Home Page is an interactive cyber installation consisting of a conventional painting executed in acrylic on canvas and a virtual extension ( a digital replica ) of the same painting active on a computer.
The original painting and its clickable version running on a computer beside it constitute the installation. All the motifs in the digital version of the painting when clicked on, expand into contexts and narratives that are at times linear and on other occasions discordant and non-linear.
As the viewer glides the mouse pointer on the digital replica of the painting, ‘hot’ links show up. These links when clicked open into a series of screens and a gradually unfolding narrative.   The intention behind this installation is to turn ‘'website’ into a metaphor, or mythycal motif. A metaphor that encodes the experience of a hyperlinked, and non-linear world that we have inherited as a result of sweeping technological changes.
